How to Create More Space in your Garden

Most gardeners begin planting their garden in traditional rows where one single row contains only one crop. This type of farming may be efficient in farming practices but in terms of a personal garden it is not most effective when it comes to using all the space in your garden. Today we are going to let you know the best way to create more space in your garden and how to get the most out of it this season.

First comes location. It is vital that your garden is in a spot that receives plenty of sunlight and is close to a water source—this is a lot easier than having to get an extra long hose or connect multiple together to stretch the length of the yard. For many, they want a large and abundant garden that takes up lots of space and the brings forth many bounteous crops. But this garden would not be easy to manage. Having a small garden that uses its space well is much easier to manage and less stress as well.

The next ways to maximize your space is to get rid of those rows; they are not the best way to utilize the land. It is better to try planting in raised beds that are 3 (or 4) feet wide. By eliminating the rows you eliminate the amount of paths between the rows that you need. If, with rows, your garden is producing the perfect amount of crop for you, then your garden can be downsized when you switch to the raise beds. Either that or you can actually add more crops to your garden this season.

This form of planting is great because it requires less effort overall for the gardener. The vegetables, when planted this way, require less watering, weeding, and mulching. It also means the soil will not be as compacted because people will not be compacting it by walking on the soil the vegetables are planted in.

Take control of effectively using your garden space this season by planting in raised beds. If you are a farmer, traditional single rows will work well. But if you are an at-home gardener the beds will make your life so much easier this growing season. So go out today and create more space for all the crops you love!
